My wife Kyra has an easy time being generous to everyone but herself. Much of her money, time and possessions become things to give away rather than enjoy. Gift cards aren't truly gifts for her - they often translate into a greater budget to buy gifts for others.
This is why it's special when someone gets her a gift that is tailor fit -- a gift she can't give away because it's just for her. A while back a family friend dropped off a box full of clothes they had outgrown. Kyra wasn't so optimistic about the gift - she assumed the clothes were old or ill-fitting. Much to her surprise the box was full of designer clothes that were brand new and just her size!
I remember how touched Kyra felt, not just to get a timely gift, but to receive something that was just her size. Kyra sensed immediately that God was involved. She felt seen. She felt remembered. She felt known.
Psalm 16 shows us that the portion of the Lord is sweeter than any amount of possessions on this earth. It testifies to a Father that not only likes to give good gifts but gifts that are just our size!
When we forget we are living in God's portion we start striving for a paycheck. We see life as a competition to be fought and won instead of a gift to receive.
A generous life begins with understanding we are living for a portion not a paycheck. Our good Father has provided a portion for us that is just our size. From this place we can enjoy without guilt and give joyfully and without fear!
What has God given you in your portion? How has it been tailored to be just your size?
